ABOUT ISI JOGJAKARTA:

Indonesia Institute of the Arts Jogjakarta (Institut Seni Indonesia Jogjakarta) is a government owned educational institution in Jogjakarta, Indonesia. It teaches visual, performing, and media arts in both traditional Indonesian and modern international styles.

Official Mission Statement:
"ISI Jogjakarta wishes to create a future Indonesia generation with solid integrity of State Ideology Pancasila as provided in the 1945 Constitution, able to professionally conduct their duties in the community, as skillful and creative artists, with a scholarly attitude and competency, who have a sense of responsibility, awareness, and commitment in developing the national culture, in accordance with their services for the nation and character building."

HISTORY:

Institut Seni Indonesia Jogjakarta was founded on July 23 1984.
As a result of the merger of three well known education institution in Indonesia
S.T.S.R.I. "ASRI" Visual Art Academy (founded in 1950),
"A.M.I." Music Academy (founded in 1952)
"A.S.T.I." Dance Academy (founded in 1961)

This merger marked the establishment of the largest and oldest educational institution for the arts in Indonesia until this day.

ADMINISTRATIONS:

The President of the Republic of Indonesia through the R.I. Minister of National Education directly appoints the Institute President / Rector. This statute provides complete distinction from other educational institutions and provides rights and responsibilities comparable to a governor of a province.

The institute delegates authority to the Senate, composed of professors, faculty members, and top administrative offices, who define the institute policy as a whole, determines and supervises courses and curriculum, advises the administrators on budgets, faculty appointments, and promotions.

The current Institute President is
His Excellency Prof. Soeprapto Soedjono, Drs., M.F.A., Ph.D.

Indonesian Institute of the Arts – Jogjakarta is situated on Parangtrtis Street, 6 km south of Jogjakarta city.
Two former campuses are the former ASRI campus at Gampingan, and AMI campus at Suryodiningratan.

RESEARCH AND COMMUNITY SERVICE:

I.S.I. Jogjakarta academic staffs are encouraged to engage in research and community service activities, within the framework of the Government Master plan. Research topics include the various aspects of the Indonesian arts, or inventory process of the artworks. Faculty and students are also involved in counselling the community to meet the need of skill improvements of some particular art-groups. These activities, worth millions of Rupiah yearly, are coordinated through the research and community service institutions. Meanwhile, collaborative programmes have been successfully developed in organising exhibitions, concerts, performances, workshops, and master classes conducted by visiting artists, or co-sponsoring lectures and research projects by visiting scholars under sponsorship of foreign cultural agencies, such as, Dutch Cultural Centre ‘Erasmus Huis’, The Japan Foundation, Australian Cultural Counsellor, The British Council, Goethe Institute, American Indonesian Exchange Foundation, Australian Embassy, and French Cultural Centre. The collaborating institutions overseas are as follows:

2. Rotterdam Conservatoriums, The Netherlands.
3. University of California, Los Angeles, USA
4. Shimane University, Matsue, Japan.
5. Wien Hochschule fur Musik und darstellende Kunst.
